Savi Technology, a wholly owned Lockheed Martin subsidiary focused on radio frequency identification applications and technology, said Wednesday it has reached a "favorable settlement" with AeroScout.
The settlement resolves a lawsuit based on Savi's low-frequencyRFID technology patents. Terms of the settlement reached in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California were not disclosed.
The patents in the dispute include U.S. Patent Nos. 6,542,114, 6,765,484, and 6,940,392. They cover Savi's "low-frequency wakeup" technology that provides extended battery life and improves location capabilities for active RFID devices. Savi, Mountain View, Calif., said in the lawsuit that AeroScout infringed these patents.
Savi holds 29 patents based on wireless data communications. Ten companies have licensed portions of this portfolio on a Reasonable and Non-Discriminatory (RAND) basis. Savi's patents also have been incorporated into the ISO 18000-7 standard for active RFID, mandated by the U.S. Department of Defense, allied defense forces, as well as a growing number of commercial companies.
