Snowballing Government Regulations--does Banning RFID Make Sense?

The number of bills introduced in state legislatures restricting RFID has roughly doubled each of the past three years, along with the number of states taking up such legislation. Unchecked, it will just be a matter of time before more and more bills pass. Industry action is needed to prevent regulations from snowballing.

Many in the RFID industry take for granted the ability to develop, market, and implement RFID solutions free from any significant government restrictions. While it's tempting to assume that government will continue to allow the technology to flourish on its own, several signs portend a different regulatory environment. If we as an industry do not act now, the costs of future regulations could become devastating.
