start:Innovision Confirms NXP as Gem Licensee
LONDON &$151; The deal signed by Innovision Research and Technology plc (Cirencester, England) with an un-named supplier of NFC chips turns out to be with NXP Semiconductors BV (Eindhoven, the Netherlands).
EE Times reported last month that a specialist maker of NFC chips had taken a license on Innovision's Gem NFC technology.
The two companies have already been collaborating on other NFC related joint marketing deals.
"The ability to offer NXP's proven firmware and software stack and secure elements already deployed in handsets along with Innovision's SoC IP for connectivity solutions provides a very attractive offering. This applies not only to handset manufacturers but also to the whole NFC value chain and should help to expedite the adoption of NFC," commented David Wollen, CEO of Innovision.
He added NXP's endorsement and licensing of Innovision's Gem NFC IP will expand Innovision's addressable market to include NFC applications such as payments.
